DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY TRICKS – All you need to know to take great digital photos
Digital photography is really not all that complicated or difficult and there are a lot of digital photography tricks and tips that will help all photographers from novice to the more experienced. When I look back to the time I started using a digital camera , some 6 years ago, there wasn’t much information available to help a newcomer learn about them.
I think that there is presumption that taking digital photos borders on the very complicated but really today’s digital cameras can make photography quite simple. Plus there are many photography classes that can be taken including online digital photography classes so you don’t even have to leave home. And that’s great with today’s busy lifestyle.
The best way I found to learn about my camera was to just take lots of photos and experiment with it. Most cameras these days have several preset settings that you simply dial up and the camera takes care of all the rest. So here is:
• Digital Photography Trick No 1
– experiment. It costs nothing to try a few settings and see what they do. You don’t have to keep the photos, simply delete them from your camera without even downloading them. I wouldn’t recommend this if you are photographing something special e.g. a special event. In that case use the auto setting. So here is: •
Digital Photography Trick No 2 – if you are using your digital camera to photograph something special, use the auto setting until you are more familiar with the camera. If you are taking landscape photos you could also use the landscape setting on your camera, likewise if you are taking portrait shots, use the portrait setting. And here is: •
Trick No 3 – you can use the portrait setting to photograph any object. What this setting will do is give a nice sharp image of the main object but blur the background. This allows the main target in the photo to stand out. If, on the other hand, you want the background to be sharp, use the auto setting. As you can see these tricks aren’t really tricks but it’s just a matter of knowing what the settings on the camera do. If you are anything like me, you probably took the camera out of the box, charged it up, gave the instruction manual nothing more than a cursory glance and started taking photos. So here is: •
Trick No 4 – READ THE MANUAL. I can’t stress this enough. Most manuals are very comprehensive and have a lot of good information in them. After all they are about digital cameras and photography. If you are used to the old traditional film camera then you find that a digital camera will allow you to do so much more but you have to first of all find out the camera’s capabilities and the manual will give you some good grounding.
So I guess the main theme of this article, apart from recommending you read the manual, is to encourage you to experiment. Read books, magazines and articles by all means but also experiment, experiment, experiment.
In future articles I will cover more digital photography tricks and camera information that I hope you will find useful.
Good shooting, Kerry
